Hm. there suppose to be a white cross in the upper right corner. If it doesn't appear even after relaunching the game - please, tell us which version are you using? Mac Win Lin? It will help us a lot
the bug has been replicated on the macOS Mojave 10.14.5 (18F132). What version are you using? Could be something on Apple side, but we are considering to migrate to the latest version of Unity. It might help. We will keep you updated! Thanks for reporting! :)
PS the problem could also be caused by Mac screen aspect ratio. Our entire output is messed up by 1440х900 (8:5) screen on our Mac. As it right now we are only optimized for 16:9 aspect ratio, not 8:5. Are you using 8:5 screen?

Once I click on an item, i.e. the briefcase, there's no way to exit out of it and look at something else. Am I missing controls?

I'm on a Mac. There was no white cross. I also tried with the second trial.
